Below is an overview of the steps to take at the end of the rental period. This document helps ensure a smooth transition and prevents any issues.
Final Cleaning
Ensure the apartment is left clean and tidy, including:
- Kitchen: Clean the oven, cooking stove, refrigerator/freezer, cabinets.
- Turn off the refrigerator/freezer to allow for de-icing before you clean it. After cleaning leave the doors open.
- Bathroom: remove calcium from the tiles, taps, shower window and fixings, clean the shower sink and mirror
- Pro tip: you can use vinegar to remove calcium or a professional cleaning like HG kalkweg that you can find in Delhaize
- Windows: Wash the inside and the outside
- Remove spider webs or dust webs
- Garbage bins: make sure your designated garage bins are cleaned out, the trash is put away and the racks above your designated garage bin is empty
Repairs and maintenance
Complete minor repairs that are your responsibility, such as:
- Removing nails/screws from walls and filling holes
- Replacing broken drawers from the refrigerator/freezer
- Replacing faulty lighting
- Remove dirt and dust scratchings from the walls and doors. If the walls cannot be cleaned, you will have to repaint them
Pro tip: use a melanine eraser aka wonderspons
Return of keys
Hand over all keys (main door, mailbox, garage, etc.).
Don’t forget to remove all bicycles from the bike shed.
Recording Meter Readings
- Note the final readings for gas, and water.
- For water you need to fill out this document with the new tenants
- For gas
Transfer your mail
Don’t forget to inform your correspondents you will move. See here for more information.
You can also ask BPost to transfer your letters to your new address.
Moving out
Even if it’s officially not allowed, you can park your car in front of the door for loading/unloading for a minimum amount of time. Try to avoid the morning and evening rush hour.
The small street next to G250 is a private street and is not our property. We only have right of way by foot or bicycle. The only cars allowed in this street are the renters/owners of the garage boxes of Pakenstraat 7.
The parking across the street in front of G250 is also private property. Don’t park your car there.
If you use the elevator to move stuff, please take care not to damage the panels, as they are extremely expensive to replace.
The entrance on the right of P9 is for use of the tenants of the garage/storage space, so don’t park your car there.
